On Monday, 6th October 2024, FOSDA and other key Civil Society Organisations held discussions with the West African Elders Forum on ensuring peace before, during after Ghana's December 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
The meeting discussed the need to address key concerns plaguing this year's elections including mistrust in the Electoral Commission, including issues with the voter registration, monetisation of elections and corruption, women and youth participantion, politcisation of the media space, disinformation among others.
FOSDA stressed on the need to address the trust deficit in the security agencies going into the 2024 Elections.
The West African Elders, led by His Excellency Goodluck Jonathan, Former President of Nigeria, urged Civil Society to continue working to educate citizens and promote peaceful and non-violent Elections.
Civil Society on the other hand requested the Elders to urge political leaders and Election Management bodies to be fair, objective and transparent in addressing the issues at hand.
